Summer has arrived – and how – with blistering heat greeting optimistic junior boys and girls at the very sporty Valley Golf Centre in Abbotsford. Drink lots of water, keep the ball in the fairway and stay in the shade! Thirty-six players took up the challenge, enjoying the very friendly and hospitable Valley GC staff and course and some great golf was the result.

Age 9 & Under Division winner, young Miss Laura Wong of West Vancouver, took the Gold Medal and Low Gross Title with an impressive 79, and Surrey's Sher Sidhu claims the Silver Medal and Low Net with a an adjusted score of 52. Third spot for the Bronze Medal to the Valley's own John Park of Abbotsford. Well done!

Age 10 – 12 Division winner and Gold Medallist, Andrew Wong of West Vancouver, is Laura's brother. It is a chance for the family to visit the Fraser Valley golf courses, part of the Welllsby JuniorTour. Andrew's 68 was very solid, and included three birdies! Low Net winner, with a sizzling 43, was Wesley Driessen of DeRoche. Silver Medal to Niko Kraakman of DeRoche and Bronze Medal to Mitchell Thiessen of Chilliwack.

Age 13 – 15 Division winner was Tristan DesJarlais of Chilliwack, with the lowest score of the day, a fantastic 59, three under Par, assisted by four birdies, three of them on the incoming nine holes. Low Net winner was Brett Wested, also from Chilliwack, at 43! Silver Medal for second spot in Gross to Steven Scurr, also of Chilliwack. Bronze to Cole Briggs of Langley. Some great scoring and close scores made the day very enjoyable for all the fans!

Many thanks, of course, to the Optimist Club volunteers, Wanda, Tracey, Pin and Harry who ensure the smooth running of each event, especially Optimist Glenda Standeven and the other on course local parents who pitch in too! Optimist Governor Dick Brodie helped also!
