Optimist Junior Linkster Tour(BC) – June 26, 2010 @ Burnaby, B.C., Canada

NEWS - June 28, 2010

Central Park Junior Classic – Par 54, 1,555 yards

What a great setting for golf with old growth forest, duck and turtle ponds, good weather and enthusiastic junior golfers learning the true spirit of the ancient and honorable game! The Burnaby Mountain Senior Men's Club are the sponsors of this event, and annually make it possible for our juniors to play at affordable rates.

Age 6 & Under boys winner, Jason Xie of Vancouver, fired at super 66 for the first place trophy, edging Burnaby's Nathan Boal who takes the silver medal, with last weeks winner Ryan Yap of Richmond winning bronze. It was a memorable day for all.

Age 7 – 8 boys division had the favourite, Ilirian Zalli of Vancouver fire a 55, helped by two back nine birdies to win the title by three strokes over Markus Yiu of Vancouver. Markus had two birdies on the back nine also, keeping him ahead of the steadily improving and jovial Dylan Bercan of Vancouver. Dylan is among the most enthusiastic and happy golfers and his scores keep getting better all the time. No hole in one's today but lots of shots close to the pin and everyone wins a prize – the lucky draw!

Age 9 – 10 boys winner, Raymond Li of Vancouver, fired a smooth and steady 59, edging Richmond's Justin Yap by two strokes. Trophy and silver medal for Raymond and Justin, and a personal best by Richmond's Top Lau, who takes a well deserved bronze medal with his score of 65, including a great birdie two on the 18th hole.

Junior Girls division winner, Claire Lovan of Surrey, was very steady with a great score of 63. Emily Tees of Surrey started with a birdie two on the first hole and played solid golf all the way through, taking the silver medal for second spot at 67. The bronze medal to Richmond's Alisha Lau, who also had a solid 67. Best back nine was used to determine the second and third place positions it's that close! Well done girls.

It's quite common for over-age players to play the great Par 3 courses on Tour, and four golfers did just that, with New Westminster's Andrew Kim firing a 56, just two over par. Andrew just turned 11 and displayed his fine shot making skills at Central Park.
