A great day in the tall and majestic timbers of White Rock, BC as the younger set took on the ever so enjoyable and challenging golf course at Peace Portal. It was a very special day too, for two youngsters, with birthday boy William Tindle from Coquitlam and Hole-in-One boy Michael Crisologo of Richmond. Skills contests were on too!
Age 7 – 8 “Pee Wees” led the way and set a good pace, with the first place trophy winner being Dylan Bercan of Vancouver. Sher Sidhu of Surrey happily accepts the silver medal for second and his younger brother Jalem can't wait to join the golfing fun. Third spot and the bronze medal placing took a tie-breaker, with Mackenzie Bickell of Richmond having a better back nine than Brayden Latray of Abbotsford. They will all be back this weekend for more terrific golf courses in Heather Hills of Maple Ridge and Cedar Ridge GC in Mission. It's qualifying for the Canadian Optimist Junior and Callaway Junior World championships in Ontario and San Diego, respectively.
Age 9 – 10 “Divots” winner was easy to figure out, with a very nice even par 27 on the front nine – greatly assisted by Michael Crisologo's Hole-In-One! This was the Richmond's veteran first hole in one and he received special gifts from the Peace Portal Golf Course and the Optimist Junior Linkster Certificate recording the ace on Hole #5. Michael's 61 was the best score of the day and with it goes the first place trophy. Second took a playoff with Daniel Sun of Surrey taking the silver medal after four extra holes with Richmond's Justin Yap.
Junior Girls Division saw some new and enthusiastic members taking part for the first time and winning too! Surrey's Hannah Lee wins the first place trophy with a solid 71, just one stroke ahead of Emily Tees, also from Surrey. The always steady and bubbly Claire Lovan of Surrey takes the bronze medal – a sweep for the Surrey junior girls. It's a good reminder that players may join the Tour events at any time of the year!
