The Burnaby Parks golf courses are enhancing their facilities on two fronts, one that will see the grand opening of a fabulous new double decker Driving Range facility at the Burnaby Mountain site this Saturday, June 12th. Our own Brad Ewart, master of golf exhibitions, will help promote the happy day for north Burnaby residents, and all are welcome to take in the festivities and try out the brand new state of the art facility.

Riverway GC in south Burnaby is building a showcase clubhouse which will overlook the golf course and be host to many athletic and social occassions no doubt! It was a small tournout of juniors for the twilight golf at Riverway today, and the golf course always provides such a fair and enjoyable touring of its rolling acres.

Age 11-12 “Bear Cubs” division saw a well deserved win by Taylor Patrick of Surrey, as he takes his first trophy after a number of prior high finishes on tour. One of the favourites in this division is James Kim of Vancouver, and he took the silver medal for second. James is a great help in encouraging our younger less experienced golfers. The bubbly and talented Jack Zhang, also of Vancouver, takes the bronze medal.

Age 13 & up “Tiger Cubs” winner, making his first appearance this year a winning one, is Mickhail Hernandez of Richmond. Two birdies helped him take the trophy over David Cui of Vancouver and Eric Wan, also of Vancouver.

Junior Girls Division winner was Janet Zhang of Richmond, with better golf to come. Vancouver's Grace Luo was in second spot for the silver medal, and Grace is seeing improvement as she tours the different and challenging courses on the JLTC Tour. A special award was made to Karen Zhang for assisting the volunteer efforts of staff.
