The classy Country Meadows GC in Richmond, BC always provides an idyllic setting with the most challenging greens on the Junior Linkster Tour circuit. Your control of distance with your shots must be precise to make par a good score.
Age 11 – 12 “Bear Cubs” division saw the top three golfers all within two shots of oneanother. Surrey's Sy Lovan had a lot pars and one birdie to finish with a solid 62 for the first place trophy, just one stroke ahead of Taylor Patrick of Surrey who rode a hot putter on the front nine with three birdies, finishing at 63 for the second place silver. Vancouver's Patrick Tan was in the hunt on the front nine but slipped a bit on the homeward nine to fire a 64 and accept the bronze medal for third place.
Age 13 – 15 “Tiger Cubs” division players really had birdie battles going on both nines, with Richmond's Tony Mak claiming another title on Tour with a three birdie round of 58 and the first place trophy. Aaron Ferrer of Delta had four birdies, three of them on the back nine to get within slim stroke of the winner but settled for the silver medal for second spot at 59. Bronze medal goes to the plegmatic David Cui of Vancouver. An abundance of talent was on display – just bring on the confidence!
Junior Girls division featured a very strong field with Burnaby's Sumie Francois taking the first place trophy with a solid 60, just two over par for the 10 year old Miss. Nine year old Tiffany Kong of Vancouver outlasted newcomer Janet Zhang from Richmond, with Tiffany taking the silver medal and Janet the bronze – 64 to 65.
The Optimist Creed was read out enthusiastically by Sumie Francois of Burnaby.
