Optimist Junior Linkster Tour Golf - May 12, 2010 @ Vancouver, BC, Canada

NEWS - May 15, 2010

Vancouver Parks Board Series @ Langara GC, Par 71, 4648/5503/6108 yds

Great weather offered up to Optimist Junior Linkster golfers today and in spite of playoff hockey, a strong group of enthusiastic junior golfers took on the rolling hills and very challenging greens of Langara where the US Kids Golf World championship qualifying will be held later in June. Sharp short shots really help!

Age 11 – 12 “Bear Cubs” division winner was the good natured, fun loving Henry Lee of Coquitlam, who birdied two of the last three holes to take the first place trophy with a solid 73, just one slim stroke ahead of Surrey's Sy Lovan. This group has a lot of very gifted and skillful golfers with lots of experience thanks to Optimist Junior Linkster golf that sees boys and girls as young as three taking part. Veteran 11 year-old A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam won the bronze medal.

Age 13 – 15 “Tiger Cubs” golfers also saw a veteran junior golfer play some terrific golf, firing a super 69, helped by four birdies, to take the first place trophy. Delta's Aaron Ferrer was that golfer and he was the class of the field with his smooth and rythmic swing motion that is the envy of many and model of grace. Winston He of Richmond takes the silver medal for second, despite struggling with his game lately and newcomer to golf, Logan Lan, also of Richmond is 3rd.

The boys division had another super score today too, with Alex Francois of Burnaby firing a 3 under par 68, including no less than 6 birdies on the day!

Junior Girls division champ was Stephanie Wong of Richmond, whose 3-birdie round of 75 was very solid, yet just 4 strokes better than up and coming young phenom Tiffany Kong of Vancouver. Tiffany is just 9 years of age! Third spot and bronze medal position goes to Burnaby's Sumie Francois.
