Coquitlam Optimist Club members attended to assist the day's golf and fun at the scenic and very challenging Academy golf course in the highlands of Westwood.
Age 11-12 “Bear Cubs” division required a one hole playoff to determine the winner, and it took at birdie two from 5 feet to accomplish the win by Vancouver's Patrick Tan. Henry Lee of Coquitlam settled for the silver medal. Both golfers had fired even par 31's. Henry is one of the up and coming highly skilled and very outgoing and happy golfers that take part in these fun eventes. Third spot and the bronze medal went to A.J. Ewart, also of Coquitlam. Wonderful conditions, course and golfing friends were treated to the bonus of a live playoff with the usual chipping, putting and bunker skills contests that followed. Winners receive golf balls for their efforts.
Age 13-15 “Tiger Cubs” division was all Coquitlam players who climbed the winners podium, with Nick Yan of Coquitlam scoring 31 with two birdies to claim the first place trophy over brothers Tom and Jerry Bang of Coquitlam, who shot 33 and 35 respectively to take silver and bronze medals for their efforts. In the Junior Girls division, newcomer Avril Li of Port Moody was unopposed and took the first place trophy with a score of 35, helped by two birdies.
