Northwest weather at it's most inconsistent, wind, rain, hail and sleet greeted the Junior Linkster golfers and eventually the sun and warmth appeared too! Some golfers quit before they started and missed out the challenge of a tour of the tree lined south Vancouver public layout, a Vernon Macan original design.
Age 11 – 12 “Bear Cubs” golfers finished in darkening skies and as a result it took a special 4-Hole “Putt-Off” to determine the winner. Patrick Tan of Vancouver took first place honors over a determined A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam. Sy Lovan of Surrey added to his collection of hardware by taking the bronze.
Age 13 – 15 “Tiger Cubs” winner, Brett Sherwood of Surrey, exhibited great patience and good sportsmanhip in helping less talented golfers to find their way around McCleery. His four birdies helped too, of course and led to a solid 72.
Richmond's Tej Dusanj fired at 74 for second spot and the silver medal, with the third spot going to Vancouver's Trevor Yu in a tie-breaker with Aaron Ferrer of Delta.
Junior Girls Division featured an extremely close contest with two of our world-class young ladies, Shania Remandaban of Coquitlam edging Tiffany Kong of Vancouver by a single stroke. Both had a birdie at McCleery. Third spot to Vancouver's Grace Luo, improving quickly with the friendly golfing scene.
