It's a very busy time for organizers of the 70 plus tournaments, clinics and learning programs offered through the unique Junior Linkster Tour Canada. This weekend, the Richmond Parks Board hosted the Age 10 & Under boys and girls to their delightful layout, and no matter the weather, 32 juniors responded happily!
Age 6 & Under “Pee Wees” say the favourite, Jeevan Sihota from Victoria, take the crown with a very solid 60, to lap the field. Silver medal goes to newcomer, Jason Sie from Vancouver, and it's great to see more age 6 & under lads playing, even if it's just nine holes as we feature for this division only. Third spot and the bronze medal goes to Rogan Campbell of Richmond. Rogan is full of happy enthusiasm for golf and cheers on all players equally, even himself!
Age 7 – 8 “Pee Wees” winner, back after a suspension, is Ilirian Zalli of Vancouver, reeling off another great round, the best of the day, a 56! Ilirian caught fir with three birdies on the back nine for 25 to take the deserved win. In second spot and taking the silver medal was North Vancouver's Zach Ryujin, who finished one slim shot ahead of David HU of Vancouver, who takes bronze.
Age 9 – 10 “Divots” division, were treated to no less than six extra holes to determine a winner, and was it a terrific playoff! Raymond Li of Vancouver and Michael Crisologo of Richmond tied at 60 for 18 holes and then started the playoff with matching birdies on the first hole, both shots within 2 feet of the hole! Four more pars each followed with a surprise 35 foot “chip-in” from Raymond ending the playoff. Raymond was thrilled and consolations to Michael, with the spectators getting the bonus of seeing the exciting playoff golf. Well done lads!
Junior Girls Division sees the emerging talent of Surrey's Claire Lovan prevail again, and Claire's two birdies cinched the win and trophy for a happy gal. Second spot silver medal goes to Toby Lau of Richmond, and third to our flower collecting Amy Ehlert of Maple Ridge. Exhibition girls, such as young Tiffany Kong, who fired a 3-birdie 56, was joined by newcomer Sara Ren of Richmond.
