Our thanks to the Cheam GC for kindly hosting the day's enjoyable golf for junior boys and girls from the Valley, Mainland and Kamloops. Sunny skies prevailed and a spirited contest unfolded on the very sporty Valley layout.
Age 11 – 12 “Bear Cubs” division winner, again, was the unflappable junior from Richmond, Philip Mak, using his steady play and two birdies to take the first place trophy. Silver medal for Noah Guise of Port Moody, his seventh podium finish in a row this season. Chris Fletcher of Vancouver prevailed in the bronze medal spot, taking the tie-breaker over Deroche's Niko Kraakman.
Age 13 – 15 “Tiger Cubs” winner Joel Kraakman of Mission, takes the first place trophy by one single shot over pal Russell Rosenburg of Chilliwack. It's a long day for some of the boys in the Valley, such as Noah Driessen of Deroche, who was out milking before sunup! Noah gladly takes the bronze medal though!
Junior Girls Division winner Rachelle Nielsen of Kamloops visited the nearby Valley layout and is getting good at these roadtrips. Rachelle's win was unopposed but still sweet and she took home the top “draw” prize too. The Okanagan Junior Linkster Tour “Bogies To Birdies Golf” has not been held since the move to Edmonton by Optimist Scott Harnett who did such a tremendous job of organizing and running the extensive and highly successfull Tour. It's a pity that the other parents did not step in to continue the wonderful opportunity of learning golf. Perhaps in 2011.
