Always pleasant weather again prevailed, and some sharp golf was recorded. In the Age 11-12 division, young A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam took first place trophy honors with a 33, just edging two others at 35, namely Philip Mak of Vancouver and Port Moody's Noah Guise, who took silver and bronze medal positions. Patrick Tan of Vancouver recorded two “deuces” to lead all players in 'birds'.
Age 13 & Up division saw the 2009 Little Masters champ, Donald Qiu of Richmond record the day's lowest score, a 30, with 8 three's! Trophy to Donald and silver and bronze medals to scores of 33 returned by Delta's Aaron Ferrer and Nick Yan of Coquitlam.
Junior Girls division featured steady play by young Tiffany Kong of Vancouver, winning the first place trophy over newcomer Gayle OH, also from Vancouver. Welcome aboard Gayle. Currently, the boys outnumber the girls almost 10 to one, a situation we would like to see change. There are so many terrific opportunities for junior girls, such as college and university scholarships – and full tuition and lodging, etc. Optimist Junior Linkster golf is the place to start and our proud alumni include many local, national and international champions – and they learned to enjoy golf with Optimists!

April 3, 2010 British Columbia Optimist Junior Linkster Tour - W. Vancr.
Seaside golf in Western Canada was never better than at the classy Ambleside GC in West Vancouver. The delightful “links” was in terrific condition, thanks to the hard work of the grounds staff who cleared the debris from one of the recent wind storms to hit the area. Age 10 & Under boys and girls looked forward to golf and a very special Easter Golf Ball Hunt thanks to the well known media duo of Hal Quinn and Brad Ewart, who set up the colored golf ball hunt – maximum find of three per player ruled!
Chocolate eggs and other goodies too – thanks to the Zalli family!
Age 6 & Under boys started off the day, with Victoria's Jeevan Sihota the class of the field with a two-birdie round of 59 for the JLTC(BC) Trophy! Newcomer Zachary Wilensky of Coquitlam won the silver medal in a close match with Sher Sidhu from Surrey who was all smiles with the bronze!
Age 7 – 8 division boys is proving to be the strongest division both in numbers and talent, saw the favorite, Ilirian Zalli of Vancouver win again with the day's best 56 – but it took a playoff for the win, Zack Ryujin of North Vancouver firing four birdie 2's to fall in the playoff with Ilirian. Always exciting to see the playoffs and another very steady performance by newcomer Jess Lee of Surrey whose 57 earned him the bronze medal!
Age 9 – 10 division junior golfers saw the veteran Sumie Francois of Burnaby record a solid 56 for first place. Her overly deliberate style may have thrown off a happy Raymond Li of Vancouver who shot 58 for 2nd, and it's great to see the improving Eric Wu of Surrey take the bronze for third.
Junior Girls division sees young Claire Lovan of Surrey really coming into her own, winning the first place trophy again with a 61! Newcomer Toby Lau of Richmond was happy to take the silver medal and Amy Ehlert of Maple Ridge the bronze. Amy is fascinated with the many beautiful varieties of flowers blooming these days and always presents a sample or two to the tournament committee. Thank you Amy!
