British Columbia, Canada OPTIMIST Junior Linkster Tour “Special Event”

NEWS - April 20, 2010

Sea to Sky” Junior Open @ Gleneagles GC, Wvn & Squamish Valley GC
Gleneagles GC, Par 36, 2550 yds & Squamish Valley GC, Par 72, 5200-6400 yds

April 5th, 2010 featured a unique 27-hole event for junior golfers, starting with a round at the sporty and challenging Gleneagles GC in West Vancouver, and then a scenic trip up to play an 18 hole round at the picturesque Squamish Valley GC.
Age 11-12 Division winner, Sy Lovan of Surrey, trailed by four shots going up to Squamish, but rallied to post the day's best 18-hole round, a 75, helped by four birdies to take the overall title, edging first round leader Patrick Tan of Vancouver, who took home the silver medal. A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam was third
Age 13 & Up golfers featured some of our all time best Junior Linkster golfers, led by Burnaby's Kevin Vigna, whose four birdies over 27 holes helped him take the title and trophy for first by one slim shot over Brett Sherwood of Surrey for silver, with Brett just one ahead of the classy left handed Lucas Gatto of Burnaby, who has to settle for the bronze – this time. Lucas would go on the next week to win at Capilano GC in the Vancouver & Districts Inter-Club Junior Tour(BCGA Zone 4). Lucas's playoff eagle won!

Junior Girls Division saw another pair of seasoned Junior Linkster golfers, in Coquitlam's Shania Remandaban and Sumie Francois of Burnaby, both who have played for BC in international championships such as the Junior World and USKids World Championships. Qualifying for these events is in May and June.

Sumie did not play the 9-hole first round, but fired a spectacular 69 at Squamish Valley, including six birdies. Special tees are used for various age categories. This special event was a good warm up round at Squamish Valley for the upcoming BC High School Championships to be held there in late May.
